Youth With A Mission

Established in 1960

What is YWAM?

Youth With A Mission, is a global interdenominational Christian missionary movement. American missionary Loren Cunningham and his wife Darlene Cunningham founded the group in 1960. Its main purpose is "to know God and to make Him known"

Why missions?

We do missions because God has a heart for every people, nation, and community, and He calls His people to participate in His mission.

Missions isn't simply about going somewhere overseas. It is about joining what God is already doing in the world.

5 reasons we do missions

  1. Because God loves the nations

    • God's heart has always been for all peoples.

    • John 3:16; Psalm 67:1–2

  2. Because Jesus commanded us to go

    • Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission.

    • Matthew 28:18–20

  3. To proclaim the Gospel

    • People need the opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus.

    • Romans 10:13–15

  4. To make disciples

    • Missions isn't just about getting people to make a decision; it's about helping people follow Jesus and become disciples who make disciples.

    • Matthew 28:19–20

  5. To demonstrate God's love

    • We serve people practically and demonstrate the character of Jesus.

    • Matthew 5:14–16; James 2:14–17

A simple YWAM statement:

We do missions because God loves the world, Jesus commanded us to go, and we are called to make disciples and make God known among the nations.

Training → Missions → Discipleship → Multiplication

We don't train people simply to finish a school. We train disciples so they can go, make disciples, and reproduce what God has placed in them.

This fits very naturally with the YWAM emphasis: “To know God and to make God known.”
